Beginning at age nine,
Stephen Selvey has nearly 20 years of playing experience. Over the years he has played in numerous groups ranging from rock, jazz, folk, and latin. Currently he is a member of the latin band, El Tule. While primarily a guitarist, he is also competent on keyboards, mandolin, and vocals. He studied music briefly at UNC-Greensboro and Radford University but found the academic world of music was not a good fit and choose to study History instead. He was still active playing in a variety of bands and ensembles in college. In 2007 he relocated to Austin and has been active in the local music scene in a couple groups. Notable gigs include opening for Gypsy Kings, Grupo Fantasma, the SXSW music festival, and the Viva Big Bend Festival. Prior moving to Texas, Stephen was an active member of the New River Valley, Virginia music scene and toured through Viginia, West Virginia, and Maryland with his band A Fine Line. In the future the musician looks forward to playing shows, recording El Tule's next album, Volumen III, and possibly recoring a classical album.
